Meet Graham Harfield of Top 2 Bottom Carpentry
I first started working with timber in 1990, as an apprentice in my father's joinery company in England. That was four and a half years of intensive carpentry and joinery training, at college and on site — learning to join timber properly in every aspect of the trade.
After ten years with the family joinery, first as foreman and then as manager, I wanted to run my own carpentry company. I moved into constructing houses and industrial buildings, starting at the roof and working my way down — which is exactly where the name Top 2 Bottom Carpentry came from.
I moved to New Zealand in March 2008 and have been building here ever since. Before I left England my certification was approved as Level 4 by the NZQA, and I'm a Licensed Building Practitioner here — which means restricted building work can be signed off and you get a Record of Work at the end.
